Five Steps to Win Your Startup Package

Step 1: If possible (not required), attend the Challenge Launch on May 31, 2016. Here you will get an overview of the Challenge and the process, and have a chance to ask questions. Details of time and location will be announced soon.

Step 2: Submit your completed initial application by June 6, 2016. This lets the Challenge know you are a registered applicant, and provides us some basic personal and business idea information. The only fee is $40, which is to purchase a copy of the required business plan software at a deep discount to the retail price of $90.

Step 3: Write your business plan. You will have until August 1to complete it, at which time it must be submitted. As part of the business plan, you will also submit a personal financial statement, as well as proof of 6 months of working capital. You will have plenty of resources at your disposal to assist in this process, and we urge you to take advantage of all of it. You will have access to mentors from the local community and UW-Whitewater who will be available to you to assist with your plan. There will be a series of 3 workshops held at various downtown Janesville locations in June to get you started. June 7 will be a general session on how to write a business plan. On June 14, there will be a session specific to doing market research, and June 21 will be a session on understanding financial statements and projections. An open house and open forum will be held July 14 to give participants an opportunity to tour the space and ask questions of mentors and UW-Whitewater faculty.

Step 4: The judging panel will notify you by August 17 if you have made it the final round. If so, you will present your plan in person in “elevator pitch” format in September 1 to the judging panel. Click here to learn more about the judging criteria.

Step 5: Winner will be announced on September 8, 2016.
